Renaming the skills to Rock Shatter and Azure Flame Flash, and organizing the final mockups
I renamed Greatsword Slam to Rock Shatter and Aurora Slash to Azure Flame Flash, updated 8 mockups, and gathered the 18 final mockups into one folder. I also fixed the longer name getting covered by the ultimate badge. The game data is unchanged for now.
In 169 I settled the skill, quest and settings mockups. While I was at it, I decided to rename the skills too. The regular sword art is now Rock Shatter (碎巖擊, a purely physical attack, formerly Greatsword Slam), and the Azure Flame ultimate is now Azure Flame Flash (蒼炎一閃, a slash powered by the azure flame, formerly Aurora Slash). I also decided to gather the final mockups, which were scattered all over, in one place.
Screens I built
I changed the text layers and re-exported the PNGs for 8 images: combat A, B and the new layout from 166, character options 1 and 2 from 167, and skill options 1 and 2 plus the final version from 169.
I redrew the final skill mockup entirely. Each list row has the name + its hanja (Myeongjo serif font, faded color) + a type badge (blue for regular sword arts, gold for Azure Flame ultimates), with element · range on the line below. The filter buttons are All / Sword Arts / Ultimates, and SKILL INFO has element, type, TP cost, range, target, cutscene and the RANGE grid.
For Azure Flame Flash's description I kept Aurora Slash's existing one ("Charges at the target and cleaves through with a greatsword of blue flame."). The element, "Azure Flame Slash," is shortened to fit the table cell.
I moved the 18 final mockups (PNG + XCF) into Gimp/UI/Confirmed/<screen>/. The folders are 00_Skin, 01–07 for the menus (Character, Equipment, Items, Skills, Quests, Settings, Save/Load), 10_Shop, 11_Dialogue, 12_HUD, 13_Loading and 20_Battle. Rejected options stay in Mockups.
Things I thought about
- Not touching the game data yet. Applying is on hold until every mockup is done, so I only changed the mockups. The names and descriptions in the skill data, and the Aurora Slash mentions in cutscenes and dialogue, will change when I apply everything.
Rabbit hole: the longer name got covered by the ultimate badge
I only changed the name text and left the ultimate badge after it where it was, so in the combat skill list, Azure Flame Flash got covered by the badge. In Korean the new name is one character longer than Aurora Slash.
In all 8 images I moved the badge after the name (text + plate) to the end of the name + 12px. But the final skill mockup has hanja after the name, so the batch move ended up covering the hanja instead. So for that one only, I set it to after the hanja + 14px. GIMP crashed partway through, so I restarted it and picked up where I left off.
Checking the new combat layout, character option 1 and the final skill mockup, the badges are in the right spot now.
Next up
- Change the skill names and descriptions in the game data (when applying)
- Decide whether to rename the old names left in file and folder names (like the romanized Aurora Slash name)
