Shrinking the equipment tab portrait by 20%, plus fixing the fade width at 4K
The equipment tab portrait was too big, so I shrank it by 20%. I also fixed a vertical seam on its right side and the fade looking half as wide at 4K.
The portrait on the equipment tab I built in 174 was too big. At first I only meant to shrink it by about 10%, but that didn't seem like enough, so I went with 20%.
Screens I built
I shrank the portrait from 1003px to 802px, 80% of its size, and kept the center of the face in the same spot. Now the ribbon doesn't ride up toward the "Equipment" title, and the bottom doesn't run all the way to the edge of the screen but fades out around the chest.
The fade widths are 100 on the left, 100 on the right (behind the equipment slots) and 200 at the bottom. The top doesn't fade at all, since the ribbon shouldn't get faded out.
Things I thought about
- A little less than the mockup. Comparing eye positions with the final mockup (167), the mockup portrait is about 771px, 23% smaller than the original. I still stuck with the 20% I'd decided on.
Rabbit hole: a vertical seam on the right
The mask reached past the right edge of the image, so the image got cut off abruptly before it had a chance to fade. I fixed it by pulling the mask's right and bottom edges inside the image.
Rabbit hole: half the fade width at 4K
The fade width was set in screen pixels, so at 4K it looked half as wide as at 1080p. That left the bottom edge plainly visible. I changed it so that every time the menu opens, it multiplies the 1080p fade width by the canvas scale. At 4K it goes in as 200×400.
